Another State For Zuri

Zuri has now completed her 13th and 14th legs of flights and has been in her 6th state (Missouri, Oregon, Illinois, California, Arizona and Colorado) plus Mexico.  We had a basketball tournament in Arizona so Zuri and Pedro came with me.

The flight out was pretty non-eventful, which is always good news when flying with a kid (note: not a baby).  She had her own seat and played with her cars, enjoyed looking out the window, watching some of her videos, and even fell backwards off her seat without even crying (don't ask us how this happened, we apparently were not paying attention).

The tournament went well.  She enjoyed Dunkin Donuts muffins for breakfast, and snacks and crackers  galore.  The players liked to give her crackers and snacks, actually Zuri would dig through the diaper bag during the games and find yummy treats to eat.

It did take some sneaking off to be able to go and coach my games.  She is definitely in a phase of not wanting me to leave her anywhere or with anyone.  She wants me to carry her or hold her and I can only get away by sneaking off.  She played with her cars during the games and other things with the players.  We had two teams, so one team would watch her while the other was playing.

I felt bad a few times because I had to wake her from naps to go to games, but she seemed to do well.  Our hotel had a water park, where Zuri and I played for a bit one day (Pedro went to the gym instead of playing with us) and the next day we were hoping to go back but Zuri took a long nap and so we didn't have time.

I didn't get more pictures because once she saw the water she ran off and that was it!

The return flight, lucky number 14, was not so lucky.  We had a bulk head seat and so we had lots of room for her to play while others were boarding.  Our flight was really late and I assumed she would sleep some.  She had other plans.  She was over tired and hyped up.  She wanted to walk around and play, which of course most of the flight was with seat belt "on" sign.  But even so, we didn't have an extra seat so she had to sit on my lap and we didn't want her bothering the person on our row, so she had to sit with me.  Zuri did not nap at all on this flight and had quite a few temper tantrums at me not letting her go and play, or letting her have Pedro's pretzels and peanuts.  The stewardess was super nice and wanted to go walk with her, however, that defeated my purpose of her not getting to go and "play" and disturb others that wanted to be sleeping...but I let her take her and that didn't last long because Zuri realized she wasn't with me about 2 minutes later and wanted me back.  Great fun.  I go with the flow on it and realize I can only do what I can do, so sorry to the people around me if they think she was annoying.

15 Months!

Zuri is the big 1-5!  She is such a big girl, size and personality wise, but still pretty wimpy!

Zuri has a large personality.  She is very friendly with strangers and other kids and LOVES to go to the gym daycare.  She is also quick to be mad or frustrated and even quicker to cry when the dogs decide to step all over her.  However, she doesn't act this way at all at the gym.  They say she is super happy and fun the whole time.  That's why I love going there, because I know if she is grumpy she will be much happier there!

One of Zuri's new favorite things is trying to ride Stella.  Yes, she climbs on Stella and rides her.  We have had many frustrations because she also tries to ride Stella when Stella is walking around the kitchen and stops for a brief moment.

No, I don't leave her unsupervised trying to ride the dogs.  But they have grown accustomed to her antics and don't seem to even acknowledge her.

The last few days she has decided that fruit is the only food she will eat.  The rest goes to the dogs, maybe that is why they like her so much!

She LOVES playing with the basketball and her cars.  And she LOVES her videos on the leappad in the car.

Spring is coming (it visited briefly but now winter has returned) and I have spent some fun time looking for some summer clothes for Zuri.  We still need some cottony shorts and some basic t-shirts, but I have covered her "fancy" clothes.

Her 15 month doctors visit went well.  She definitely knows that when the nurses come in they want to give shots, she screams and screams!  This is how I entertained her prior to the doctor, since I had to wait forever...

Next week Zuri gets to go to Arizona (suppose to be 94 degrees!) to a tournament.  Hoping we have some downtime to visit the waterpark at the hotel for Zuri.

Easter!

Zuri's second Easter, did not include a visit to, or from the Easter Bunny.  She still wouldn't know what is going on to have an Easter basket.  Next year!

Here are some pictures from today!

Walker!

We have a full time walker now (part time crawler)!  She has been walking pretty consistently since about March 4th.  And now she walks pretty much the whole time.  Sometimes she thinks it is faster to crawl so she will get down and crawl away.  Otherwise, she walks, which is a lot more fun for us!

However, Zuri has been throwing quite the temper tantrums lately.   Lots of battles between mom and daughter right now.  Literally right now, she is in her room screaming, because she has been a crazy girl.  Once she quiets down, which is hopefully sooner rather than later, she will get to come out and play.

We have a new nap disorder, where she will only sleep until 3:00pm.  Pretty much no matter what time I lay her down..3:00pm and BAM!  Awake.  Really annoying, since staying up from 3:00 until 6:45 seems to be a big chore for her.

Here are some pictures!

14 Months!

Month 13 to 14 went really quick.  Not necessarily "fun" however!  The change from two naps to one nap was successful in some aspects.  But did not lead to a happy Zuri.  To clarify, Zuri does not want two naps.  I tried to go back to it and she happily took a morning nap...but then she refused to take an afternoon nap.  She laid in her room for 2 hours chit chatting.  So, in trying to figure out how to make it work, I have decided Zuri needs to go to bed earlier.  Like 6:45 earlier.  Oddly, she has welcomed this and it seems to be helping the morning grumpiness.  I don't want to jinx it, so we will just have to see how it goes.

Zuri does not have any new words and still does not say "mama"!  She has walked some.  On February 25th, she walked while I was behind her and encouraged her.  She still continues to walk this way, but is unsure.  She has walked a few times from the kitchen to the living room while carrying her basketball, but that is it.  It seems she has the capability, but not the confidence.

One of Zuri's favorite activities is playing peek-a-boo.  She loves to put her hands over her face and hide.  She sometimes enjoys reading books with me, but other nights she throws them on the floor.  Food is hit or miss.  She thoroughly enjoys eating all the veggies out of soup and jambalya.  She gets excited for her morning pancakes and fruit too.   Lunch is sometimes questionable.

Zuri LOVES dogs and wants to play with them a lot.  She loves when they are sleeping on the couch and she can crawl all over them and poke them.  Today she thought it was hilarious when Stella kept licking her, but usually she doesn't like to be licked.

We went to Kurt and Dena's for my birthday dinner and Zuri played with Tess. Tess was very gentle and was playing fetch with Zuri.  Zuri was nice enough to share her sippy with Tess too..

Zuri kissing Tess...

Zuri has had a chronic runny nose (I hope she isn't that kid).  She has also had a cough.  We have experienced the stomach flu and many other issues in month 13.  But we all survived it and I am hoping for a much better 14th month!

Here is a photo bomb for you:

Playing at the Library (hoarding all of the balls)

Zuri loves the snow, which she calls "star?"
