1 Year Stats!

Zuri had her one year appointment last Wednesday.  She has grown quite a bit, although I am still not sure the measurements for height are correct, since Zuri SCREAMS and THRASHES for most of the measuring.

She has definitely caught on to the fact that the doctors office is not a place she wants to go.  Actually, she likes the doctors office.  Just not the doctors or nurses.  She pretty much cried as soon as she saw them.  Looking in her ears, mouth or even listening to her heart/lungs was a massive chore.  I assume it will only get worse.

Her measurements were:
Weight: 21lbs 14oz  78%
Length: 32.75 inches 99.97%
Head: 18.25 inches 85%

Her 9 month stats were:
Weight: 19lbs 9oz 71%
Length: 30.5 inches 99.77%
Head: 17.5 inches 65%

So that would mean that she gained 1lb 5oz (although I think she was just gaining back all that she lost being sick), grew 2.25 inches and her head grew .75 inches in 3 months.  I am not 100% sure on all of the measurements since she was just getting back to normal weight and she was throwing massive tantrums just to be measured.  But assuming they were at least close, she is growing quite well.

We had a massive issue with milk, as in I made the mistake of trying to give her straight milk.  Which she immediately refused and then refused her sippy cup too.  We are gradually starting to drink from the sippy again (thank goodness!) and we drink 5oz of milk mixed with 3oz of formula, which I am fine with for now.

Zurianna now has 5 official words:  Dada, Dog, Star (Duck and Stop).  Duck and Stop are written that way because she has just started saying STOP when the dogs are barking and duck she says, but it kind of sounds like dog.   When Zuri hears a dog barking outside she will look around and say dog? dog?

Her new favorite thing to do is walk around with her walker non stop.  She will get frustrated and scream when it gets stuck or she can't move it around something.  She usually walks around with something in her hand (her baby from the dollhouse or a magnet) and one hand on the walker.  She can maneuver it and turn it, but when she gets frustrated she just SCREAMS about it.

Zuri cracks me up now because she has learned to shake her head no.  She does it all the time.  I say "Can I have a kiss?" and she will shake her head no.  Then I tell her yes and shake my head yes and she laughs and laughs.  She also likes to feed the dogs when she is full.  We tell her no and she looks right at us and shakes her head no and smiles and gives the dogs food.  They really love it.

Pedro is having surgery on Monday and hopefully that is as easy as they make it sound.  Then it will be time waiting for some scar tissue to form before he can go back to work.

Here are a few pictures.  I haven't taken as many because Pedro has been home and usually I am taking them for him!

Zuri likes to sleep on her stomach in a ball with her blanket!

Driving home from our daily gym visit!

Doesn't she look like an old woman?

LOVING the nice weather today!  Zuri and Daddy out for a walk (note Pedro grabbing his butt, that is where he has pain)

FULL SPEED AHEAD!

Dangerous leaning forward because she is going so fast.

1 Year Likes and Dislikes...

Zurianna is very picky, independent and opinionated.  I can try to feed her twenty different foods and she won't eat any of them.  But if I sit down with something she will miraculously decide that was what she wanted to eat.  I literally can't sit down and eat without her mauling me and my food.  When I give her things to eat, she must have an actual opinion of what she wants because it might be the 4th food I offer that she eats.  And of course that food choice is different at every meal and every day.  I thought this type of pickiness didn't start until later in life?!

Right now Zurianna loves to eat (again, who knows which item at which meal)...

Jambalya!
Beans
Cooked veggies in a broth (I make homemade soup and she eats all the chunks out of it)
Tomatoes
Kiwi
Mango
She would probably eat most fruit, but since its not seasonal, we don't have too much on hand.
Cheese
Pancakes
Potatoes
Pizza
Formula (this is only an important factor because we are weaning her off formula to milk)
Whatever I am eating
Snacks (little puffs, cheese puffs, kale apple crocodiles)

Dislikes:
MILK-she dislikes milk so much that she doesn't want her sippy cup now because she thinks there is milk in it...great fun.
Any of the foods above if she is not in the mood!

In regards to her other likes and dislikes she is also pretty opinionated about these things.  For instance she loves the bath and all of her bath toys. She loves to be independent, but lately won't leave my side and hangs on my pants and wants to be with me every moment she is awake.  But if I go upstairs and she is downstairs with Pedro, she will play on her own the entire time!  She must have my number.

She loves:
Dollhouse (so weird that she loves dollhouses, I never did!)
Balloons!  She loves the balloons from her birthday party!
Leap Pad and Ipad.  The Ipad has more apps that she can play with right now.
Iphone...just to take it from me.
Carrying magnets or blocks and shapes from her toys
Carrying the people around from her dollhouse
The Zebra that makes noise when you push it's buttons (also a walker), she loves to look at us before she pushes the buttons that make noise and then laughs
Watching sports and clapping!
Me blowing on the bath recorder (flute type thing), she will keep putting in my mouth to do it
BATH
DOGS
CAT
Asking where her belly or mouth is (the only two she knows right now)
Music
Books (specifically the nursery rhyme book and the book that has things hidden under flaps).

Dislikes:
Not getting her way-which means she will then throw herself around, I have learned to lay her down gently before she does this and then just let her throw her tantrum.
Diaper changes
Naps
Dogs knocking her down or stepping on her
Dogs being in her way, although most of the time she just crawls over them, sometimes when she is being moody she will yell and scream at them
Trying to do something that frustrates her...which leads to screaming, hitting and throwing of the object

New skills that have happened recently:
Although she could clap for quite awhile, she loves to clap now.
Pointing out her belly or mouth
Putting objects in a bowl and shaking them (yesterday it was her doll from her dollhouse in a bowl)
Stacking objects (although this has only happened with measuring cups)
Hiding something in my hand and having her guess which hand...when she is wrong she knows to check the other hand.
Walking one handed with the walker-I swear she can walk, if she wanted to
Hands me items
Feeds me if I want a bite
ALWAYS FEEDS THE DOGS and will call them over and feed them.
Shakes her head "no"
Will climb onto the sofa via her chair

Zuri knows a lot of things-like if I tell her to pet Polar she will pet him.  If I tell her to pet Stella, she will pet her.  When I say lets take a bath, she will climb up the stairs and go into the bathroom (sometimes with a few side trips).  She will get you the balloon, look at her house and many other toys that we frequently name.

Zuri can only say the "d" words, I swear I have heard mama a few times but never with any consistency.  She will say "dada" and be looking at Pedro.  Or the other day I was feeding her and Pedro coughed, she stopped and said "dad".  She says "dog" but sounds similar, but different than "dad".  She usually mimics what we are saying and sometimes it sounds pretty close to what we said.

She is also a little devil.  Zuri wants to run to the bathroom if she hears that the toilet is open and the dogs are drinking.  If the stairs are not blocked she will go to them and laugh and take off up the stairs.  Anytime she knows she is not suppose to do something she thinks it is hilarious to do it.  She will look right at us, laughs and then do whatever it is she isn't suppose to do.

One annoying thing is that she can't figure out how to get off the sofa.  She can now get on via her chair, but she has fallen off face first quite a few times.  I don't know why she doesn't get it as I have tried to teach her over and over.

We have started milk in a different way, since she won't drink it.  I am now mixing her formula and milk, until I get to just milk (hopefully!).  Today we are at 50/50.  She has been drinking a lot lately.  Something like 24-28oz and with part of that being high calorie whole milk, I would think that it would be going down.  She is still eating a good amount of food.  Maybe she is on a growth spurt, or just making up for being sick.

Alright, hopefully we will have her 1 year appointment this week and I will have some stats!  She doesn't seem to have grown too much and I know she lost about 2 lbs being sick but I think some of that is coming back as she is eating like a crazy girl!  We are scheduled for Wednesday, but that is assuming Pedro doesn't have his back surgery on Wednesday.

1 YEAR OLD!

Zuri is officially ONE YEAR OLD!  Some days I feel like it has been forever ago that she was born and yet others seem like it was so recently.  She is such an opinionated little girl.  I can say little girl now, right?

Zuri had her first birthday party on the Saturday and she was so spoiled.  She got some great things.  Some of her favorites were the magnets for the fridge, so she can carry them around the house.  Her tent with tunnel.  Her leappad 2 (she actually likes playing with it, although she has no clue).  Oh and her bath toys she got, which make her happy, but I have already had issues getting her out of the tub and now it is even more difficult!  She got a few books, which we have added to our bedtime stories and then the clothes were my favorite things.

Her birthday party went great.  Although Zuri had opted for no nap before the party, which made for one tired baby after the party.  She loved getting to play with Grey and Asbhy.  She was chasing around Grey's new remote control truck for part of the time.  She enjoyed all the people that were there and had a good time.

My mom got her a delicious small cake.  Zuri thought it was so fun to just stick her hand in the cake.  Then after about 5 minutes she took a bite of what was on her hand and decided she loved the cake!

The setup and everything looked great.  I made a cookie cake for everyone else to eat, since I like cookies way more than cake.  It was so good.

A few more pictures from the day.....

She was out cold 5 minutes into the drive home..

Then later at home she played with her Leappad, while Pedro played with the Ipad.

Our house has been officially filled with child stuff.  It is EVERYWHERE.  We need a bigger house, just for her stuff!

On her actual birthday, Zuri woke in a bad mood.  I told her it was her birthday, but she didn't care.  She was a little happier when we went out to breakfast, she had a yummy pancake and then ate some of our food.  She doesn't seem to be loving milk, now that she is starting to have some.

After breakfast she took a nap and we had to go to Fort Morgan with Pedro because he needed to see the dr for his  back.  So she was fussy the whole way home and pretty much cried.  That was fun!

After another nap, we went out to dinner for her birthday and met my parents and Kurt, Dena and family.  By the end of dinner, she had decided she was done for the day.  Actually, her issue is that she wants to walk (with me holding her hands) around non stop and when we sit down she screams.

I postponed Zuri's doctors appointment because she has been sick for about 11 days with what started as the stomach flu and turned into a low grade fever and cold.  She still has a runny nose, but is feeling better.  This is a picture of how she was feeling two days before her birthday party!

I will do another post with Zuri's new abilities and likes and dislikes...
