Doctors are useless...

I went to the dr. today for my leg pain. I was told that it appears to be pain on my fibula where my hamstring attaches. This pain could be caused from a bone reaction (similar to a stress fracture), inflammation of my bone, or one of the first things also putting pressure on the nerve on my fibula. Yeah, I could have figured that out. So, they told me to take 500 mg of naprox twice a day for two weeks to get the inflammation down. Then I am to go to pt 2x a week for bone massage , steroid creams and stretching. Let's hope something helps. I haven't had the severe pain yet but I can feel it so it seems I need to take care of the problem. I was also told that I probably have cartlidge damage and running probably isn't the best thing for me...I was like ummm yeah no shit but I'm talking about my leg not my knee.

Today's workouts:
30 min ER (ellip 5.6 speed)
weights
70 min (TB) trainer ...again too much wind 20.66 miles.

Pool drama...

Today's workouts:
Swim (MS) 3,000 yds
Run 80 min (LR 10-50-20)
Bike 40 min (EB) spin

I started with the ellip and did 10 min and then went to the treadmill for 50 minutes. It was definitely a huge increase in time from my previous long runs. The running was not difficult, oddly enough running seems to take less energy than the ellip. I ran at 5.6 today (again I know not fast) but my HR was under 150 pretty much the whole run. I could start to feel my "leg" a little bit today. Then I finished out the LR with 20 min on the ellip.

Off to the pool for a MS. Today was annoying because I had 1400 straight (27 min..slow I know) and then 3x150 1x300 two sets of this. Then a short cool down. The drama today occurred because this big HAIRY nasty guy...well everytime I am swimming around 300 pm he is in the sauna. Then he gets out and jumps in the pool...with his shoes on! Soooo gross. I complained a few weeks ago and he denied every doing it. So, today he did it twice while I was in the pool so finally I stopped midlap and said...that is so gross to jump in the pool after being in the sauna and you are all sweaty plus you have shoes on! I wanted to include that he was gross in general and needed to do something about the werewolf problem..but I refrained. He flipped out that I thought it was gross. He said he could do whatever he wanted and it wasn't against the rules to jump in...interesting, knowing that he has already been talked to about it. I said I'm just saying it's common sense not to do that...it's gross..that's why this pool is disguisting (which it is soo gross but is going to be cleaned soon plus summer is coming soon so I can swim outside). He kept talking but I put my earplugs back in a went back to swimming. He didn't jump in again while I was swimming so at least it did some good.

Then I came home ate and then napped for almost 2 hours!! I must have been tired..?? I got up and biked for 40 minutes just an easy spin..then went to practice.

Today's workout:

LB 2hr 45 min. (48.45miles/ 141 avg hr)

Very windy out today so I did half the bike outside and half on the trainer (so less mph than usual b/c of wind..I was avg about 20.8 mph but riding directly into wind dropped avg speed). Of course after I finished doing all of this the wind seemed to calm down a bit and the sun came out.
Can't wait until the WINDY season is over!

Thought this was good.

Autobiography in 5 short chapters:

Chapter 1: I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost-I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place, but it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in....it's a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am . It is my fault. I get out immediately.

Chapter 4: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

Chapter 5: I walk down another street.

Today's workouts:
3,000 yd (LS) 64 min
40 min (TR) 10-30.
Weights

I felt good today. I swam first so I wouldn't be tired for the swim. Swim went fine and then I lifted. I was more tired for the lifting since I had gone from swimming to lifting. After lifting I did the ellip for 10 min and then ran for 30. The run felt really good today not that I run all that fast at 5.5mph on the tread. Kept HR under 155.
Nothing else really for today that was exciting.

Long day

I got up early this morning and headed down to take your children to work day at Merril Lynch. No, I was not the child that was brought to work, though some of you may beg to differ. I was instead brought to talk to a group of kids about basketball. Well, kids have no attention spans and so it was quite difficult talking to them so I settled for spinning the ball and showing them my national championship rings. After being there for two hours or so and then going to lunch with my aunt...I went straight to the gym.
I got to the gym and settled in for an easy 5 min ellip, 20 min run and 5 min ellip. After I finished this I went to the locker room to change for my long swim. Something I love to be done with. As I was undressing I realized I had forgotten my swimsuit ugh! You have no idea how annoying that is being that I was already tired from being awake so early and just wanted to get it over.
I drove home and decided no way was I going to make it back to the gym. I was sitting outside and realized it was nice out. So, I figured I needed to get in another workout of something. I decided to do my tempo bike. I ran upstairs and checked the weather and it said winds from north 10mph gusting to 20. I thought, man I don't feel anything like that!! So out I went...well of course if you have read my blog I have said "the weatherman knows best". Today was another example of that. It didn't bother me so much since it was a short ride today but it was annoying on the last two miles when sand was flying at me and I was barely moving...I now have sand in my ears and hair that I am still finding. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up to the tempo zone today...strange, maybe because I was tired who knows.

Todays workouts:
30 min easy run (5-20-5)
60 min TB

Felt good...

Today's workouts:
LR: 60 min (10 ellip, 30 run, 20 ellip)
MS: 2,500 yds (58 min)
EB: 45 min on trainer

Today I did my long run part on ellip and actual running. Things went well. Swimming started off being a bit tired but got into it and wasn't bad. I have listed the time in hopes that I will be getting faster and faster. This time included the rest intervals. Tonight I rode the bike on the trainer inside since it was easy spinning, while I watched desperate housewives.
That's pretty much it for the day now I am going to make a spinach frittata for dinner and watch some tv :)

Long bike

Today's workout:

3:51min bike ride (about 67 miles).

Today I rode the frontage road up to Johnstown exit. It was a good ride going out but on the way back the lovely wind returned. Lots of in your face wind and some cross winds. The worse part of the ride was that I was starving and I hadn't planned on being out the full 4 hours because of the wind...but it was nice on the way out so I didn't feel like coming back. I was going to setup the trainer in the front for part of my ride, but being out was good, even with the wind. Anyway, since I was sooo hungry and had no food I was tempted to stop at Starbucks on my way through Longmont to get a scone. It sounded soo good..but I had no money and I wasn't sure they would take my cc number from my head without anything so I just kept going. When I got home I ate everything a person could find..smoothie with protein, half of a chipotle with some chips...then I napped a bit, went to the store and then had yogurt with kashi before practice. My new computer is awesome...keeps heart rate, speed etc...and keeps averages of those things as well. It also told me I burned 1700 calories on my bike today (no wonder I am starving).

One note to self is that on days that call for long bike and swimming (like today) I need to swim first because after the long bike I am too tired to go swimming...especially on practice days that are late nights.

Day from HELL!

Sunday I was in VA with a few players. We left to go to the airport in Norfolk. The flight was delayed and we were told we would miss our connection in Philly. We arrived in Philly and had 15 min to make it to our gate. We ran as fast as possible and made it..only to find out I had a ticket but no reservation, whatever that means..?? They wouldn't let us on the plane. Long story short we ran back and forth between usair and united trying to figure this out and it was (seriously) about a 5 min full speed run between the areas...we did this about 5 times and we were sweating. They wouldn't let me on the plane and everyone was so rude. We ended up being stuck in Philly overnight, but by the time we ate and watched Juno (trying to put us in a better mood) we had about 3 hrs of sleep before we had to go back to the airport for our long journey back home. It was about 7 hours of travel time.
Once we got back we were lucky to find our bags had just arrived on a different flight. Then we went to the car and our car wouldn't start. So, we had to find someone to jump the car for us...it was a long day.

When I got home I unpacked and went to the gym for:
Weights
45 min elliptical (didn't want to run after such a long flight)
90 min bike on trainer (at 10pm)

I had to take a nap after the gym and eat...then I did the bike. I guess this is the official start to Ironman Wisconsin training.

Lots to do.

I leave tomorrow for VA for basketball. So, today I had a lot to do. I had originally thought I was going to get a lot of working out done today...but that changed.
While I was getting ready to go to yoga, I got a call that my new bike computer was in. So, instead of going to yoga I decided it would be good to get the new computer on since I have a long ride on Monday and I don't get back until Sunday night. When I got there it took them about 1.5 hours to find the computer and put it on and adjust it...good lord. Then I went to the gym to lift and do an easy run. I was also suppose to do a swim but I didn't have time because I had lessons. Needless to say I didn't get much done and now I am debating getting up early to take yoga just so I have some workout before I leave in the morning and sit on a plane ALL day (we arrive at 700). We will see how I feel in the morning.

Todays workouts:
Easy run (20 min run, 10 min ellip)
Weights

TAX DAY

I have decided taxes are sooo ridiculous. You end up paying something like 25% of your income to taxes...and that is me..someone that doesn't make very much money. Being self-employed I guess since I wait to pay taxes at once it makes it seem really bad...ugh.

Today's workouts (very hot but windy outside today)
Long Cardio: 15 min ellip, 22 min run, 45 min ellip (82min)
Easy spin: on trainer in front yard (lol)..45min

Practice tonight...blah.

Nice day...

Today's workouts:
Weights
18 min run (don't laugh)
70 min bike

Very nice weather today. However, I got a late start to the biking so just went out for an hour. The new bike setup seems really nice...I was flying. However, it could be that today was the first day riding without wind.

This morning I went to orthotic guy and he did a computer gait analysis. He discovered that my left foot (bad leg side) still overpronated even with the addition of the orthotic. My right foot was perfectly balanced. So he added a lift on my left orthotic to help stop the pronation. Hopefully this will help with the leg pain.

Lazy

I decided to not really do much on Friday. Today I did 45 min on the elliptical. Again my hr was relatively low. They said that the race may have pushed my fitness level up so that could be why I now have a lower heart rate.

That's about it for the day and the end of a week.

Low...

Today's workouts:
spin
weights
yoga

Today I got up early. Early means 930 or so...I left to take spinning and got there right before it started. Today was a 60min tempo ride which means to keep my heart rate near the aerobic max the entire time. However, I had a problem getting my heart rate high. While seated it was dropping below my baseline aerobic (135) and when I stood up on intervals (which usually sends it very high) it would maybe make it up to about 10 below my max. I think the entire time I made it up to my max once.

Now you would think this is good right? Well, according to the training forum it might not be good. It could be a sign of impending sickness or a tired body. I don't feel tired...and I hope I'm not getting sick even though everyone around me is sick all the time. I just had the flu so I can't imagine another flu. I emailed the training people to see what they suggest.

After spin I lifted quickly..then tried a more advanced yoga to see how I liked it. I am content with the beginner yoga since it will be cheaper. It was kind of nice being done by 100 today...however, I missed a swim workout because I didn't feel like it...and besides it is just maintenance time :)

Just another day...

Today's workouts:
Yoga
30 min easy run (10 min ellip/15 run/5 min ellip)
2,500 yd swim.

Yoga was good start to the day. Then I went for my run. My heart rate was really low today. Not sure if that is good or bad..or either. They say if you are tired your heart rate may be harder to get up...or you could have a good day.
The pool, well it's the pool. I hate the pool. It was cold today and I had long sets. One set of 400 and two sets of 500. The long sets make things horrible. I don't mind doing shorter sprint sets :)
Now we have a game tonight and that will be it for the day.

No excitement.

Nothing exciting today. Went and picked up my bike without the new bike computer, so that is annoying that I will have to make the drive there again. I wanted the V3 and they don't know when it will be coming in so I have to wait. Today's workout I did the elliptical for 15 minutes than progressed to running for 14 minutes and then back to the elliptical for 45 minutes. So, 75 min of cardio. I also lifted, but didn't bike today.

Two weeks out...

Two weeks out from beginning regular training. Still in the maintenance phase right now. Hoping my leg heals by the adjustments that I have made on my bike and will be making with my orthotics and continued pt.
Today's workouts:
1.5 hrs on spin bike (half in spin class half on my own)
2,000 yd swim. Boring swim today.
YOGA!

Today I tried a new yoga. Bikram was way too hot for me and gave me headaches and would tire me out too much during training. This yoga was awesome. They did some core work and good "runners" stretches in a not hot room...not cold either. It would probably be a really good thing to add during training. The downside is $$$ everything is so dang expensive.
I have decided I should add a donation page. The donations would go to nutritional supplements, yoga and necessary accessories.
Today I bought skins. They are pants used for recovery after races, long runs/bikes and for travel. I have heard a lot of good things about them and I am hoping they will help my legs recover from long workouts...help keep my legs from getting tired on flights and keep swelling out, which is always an ongoing issue with my knee.
Then I bought a longsleeve bike jersey. No, I didn't own one before, just a jacket. This is lighter weight and would have been a good option for my race, had I owned it then.

So again, if anyone would like to make a donation it would go to a good place :)

Friday

Today I did:
2,000 yd swim, which had a lot of kick sets.
45 min spin class
Weights

I was gone most of the day working out and doing lessons. Then I ate at around 5, then kory and karen wanted to go to outback so we went and I had the yummy salad and chocolate thunder :) Yes, most people who do training wouldn't be eating this...but I just love dessert!

Bike...

Continuing my bike drama. I brought the bike in today for a new bike fit. We made some adjustments that should help..if it is the bike causing some of my leg pain. Don't really understand why the bike was setup the way it was since some of the adjustments we made seemed like that is where they should have been.
Then they looked to see why I couldn't shift in my race to the big gear. Apparently, something got loose and so they have to figure out why and how to fix it. Then the computer. Of course it worked while I was at the store but I told them I wanted to try a completely different one. So, they are going to put on a new computer made by the same company but a new model. If this one doesn't work we won't be using cateye again.
They are going to keep my bike until next week to fix those things and do a tune-up of a few things...all for free so I guess that is good :)

Low Key

Nothing too exciting going on. I have decided to try and put on a bit more muscle before "real" training begins in three weeks, so that if I lose muscle during the training it can be some of the muscle I will hopefully build.
I have gotten my maintenance program which consists of almost the same amount of workouts I was doing before (scary thought since this is just maintenance before big training). Yesterday, I took spinning instead of biking outside and lifted. I didn't do a swim yesterday because I got my hair colored so I missed that one.
Today I swam 2,500 yds and ran 30 minutes. Tomorrow I am going in for another bike fit to see if that is contributing to some of my leg pain and secondary IT band pain..since I didn't really run for nearly 6 weeks I am thinking the bike could be making my IT band hurt now. My leg seemed to feel better, the IT band hurts some.
That's really it..other than I kind of feel like I lost some of my altitude because I seem to be feeling it a little...is that possible??? lol.
