Long time without updating again. I have been busy working and training. I have officially begun Half Ironman training. I am training for a race in Orlando in May. Training for a half seems like a walk in the park compared to the training for a full. However, winter training makes this the worse training ever.
For instance, yesterday because of the cold and wind I had to spend an hour on the treadmill. Then today I had 2 hours on the bike and because I chose to do this ride at night during the Bronco game (which was horrible) I then had to do a short speed run inside. Since, I do not have a tred at home I decided to run the stairs for 20 minutes. Stella and Polar enjoyed this because they could run up and down with me and then at the most in opportune time they would stop right in the middle of the stairs.
Training is going well. I have created my own training plan so we will see how my next race turns out!
Pedro had an adventure, while he was on a "ride-along" with a department a car had rolled over and he had to basically pull the door off to get the driver out of the car. His muscles were put to good use :)
For Christmas we went to Kurt and Dena's house and had 25 some people at their house. Pedro got some of the best presents from my brother, which were ALL New England Patriot related! Too bad both of our teams are out of the playoffs now!
Besides that we have been working and working out. Nothing new there!

Thanksgiving....
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holiday's because most people are expected to spend most of the day eating. Which of course is one of my favorite things to do. This year I made sweet potato souffle, which Dena found the recipe. It was amazing and had maple syrup in the sweet potatoes and topped with brown sugar and pecans. Sad, I know, that food is so exciting to me!
This whole week I have been working from 645am to about 5 or 6pm. Then I head off to run club or practice. Oddly enough, my energy levels are great, until I stop for the day and then I am out like a light. My days are spent helping people understand what to eat and help hold them accountable. Funny part is that my days are actually spent eating, for the most part. I pack my lunch every night before work. Some days I am gone from 630am until 930pm, so I bring enough food to feed a small army, or someone like me ;) I spend my hour lunch breaks out on a run and my free time before or after practice working out. I still get in training some people and doing bball stuff.
Pedro has been waking up early to go to the gym..and then working. His work hasn't been that busy. But we both really do like the gym.
We have gone to the Nuggets (I think 2weeks ago) and out with his friends from work and from the police academy. On top of all the work we have been doing and, of course, working out.
For those of you that do not live in Colorado, today was our first snow of the season. Exciting?? Not too much since I am suppose to do run club at 8am tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it.
Hope you enjoy our picture!

Hello again...
Today is Weds. This was my day off. What do I do on my day off from work...hmmm. Well, I got up early (745) and had a lesson for bball. Today I played for the first time in months, since I wasn't playing during Ironman training. Jac and I won 13-5 and beat M and B. Quite entertaining. After bball I headed to the park to train my two ladies. We are trying to take advantage of the nice weather while it lasts. I'm sure they did not enjoy the hill walking and walking with weights!
I came home and had to send out loads of emails for the run club newsletter and answer all kinds of questions about the run club.
I ate, watched Desperate and then took an hour nap :)
I got up and went for a 7.75mile run with a few friends. I came home and started chicken tortilla soup for dinner and headed off to run club. Run club was a short 2.5 mile run, in the much colder temperature (I hate how the temperature can drop from 65 to 48 in an hour).
Came home..ate some dinner and watched a csi..and packed my meals for tomorrow. I say meals because I have to go to work from 9-715 then I have practice at 730-900. Currently, my plan is to get up and go do cardio, swim and then shower at the gym and go to work...so could be a really long day!
Pedro worked today and of course got his workout in.
As of today (since Sunday) I have gotten in 32 miles of running this week. However, the mileage will probably dwindle since I work 9-715 Thurs and Friday.

All in a days work....
For those of you that need some entertainment, I will try to update my blog more. Not that the blog is any source of entertainment, but none the less.
Today is Monday, which for me meant a lot of things to do. I got up early around 650am and left to go train the two women that I train. One of the ladies lost 3 pounds this last week (12 pounds or so overall in about a month)!!! She says she has gotten into clothes she never thought she could get into. Anyway, I headed over to her house and ate breakfast there while I was training them. Then off to work.
Work today consisted of taking a test to make sure I know what I am doing while working with people in weight loss. Making sure I know what foods the people can eat on the various plans...lots of boring stuff. The test took almost 3 hrs and was all essay and short answer. I missed one question (no I am not a geek thank you). Funny part was that three of the girls taking the test were all talking and cheating during it...then they missed 20 plus questions. I have always said that you shouldn't cheat off someone else, because they may have less sense than you do.
Anyway, I was the first one done with the test so I ended up with an 1.5 hr lunch break. I figured I should take advantage of this, so I went for an hour run then came back and had my lunch.
We got out of work early at 400, so I headed home to get the children (stella and polar) to bring with me to the gym. Pedro had left later this morning because he didn't work until 10, but the dogs had been locked up since then, so I figured they needed some lovin'.
Off to the gym I went to meet my friend Debbie to go for a short run before run club started. We got back from our easy run then started run club which consisted of a light post run today, or "fartlek" run. I took the group out and we ran light post to light post, one easy then one fast. Then ended with a cool down.
After run club I went and took yoga/pilates fusion. It was an ok class today, the other day the teacher was really good and my abs are still sore!
Pedro headed home after work and then working out...he finished his workout when I was starting my yoga class. He went home and started cooking our chicken for dinner. We had salad, chicken, rice (just me), and some butternut squash. I followed this with some hot chocolate..mmmm..all while we watched CSI NY for the week.
Long day and now I am getting ready to go to sleep :)

Busy...
Been quite busy the last week.
This week I started working a job. I worked from 9-5 everyday. I also trained someone 3 days this week, did lessons and had practice. Besides this we had VIP night at the gym and I had to go there and work the Run Club table, since I am the run club coordinator.
I also got in about 35miles of running this week, a spin class and a pilates/yoga class. I took advantage of my time before work a few days (when I didn't have to train before work) to do the stairmaster at the gym or go for a run. I also ran during my hr lunch break, if I knew I had practice, lessons etc. that night.
Today was our first run club day and we had about 15 people come to the run. It was only about 25 degrees but it wasn't really that bad. I got in a lot of extra running going from the front of the run to the back...then re-catching the front again.
Pedro has been busy working as well. The cafe is very busy and he is crazy busy..but it is better than it being slow.
We both workout at the new gym now and it isn't super busy so that is a plus. They also have a huge amount of cardio and weight stuff spread out so it shouldn't get too crazy. I think I will start masters swimming this week, but I will have to do the 545am time because the evenings I have run club on the days of swimming.
Anyway, lots of busy stuff...nothing of great interest. Looking forward to Sunday. Pedro works some, but I do not have anything so I am going to run and take a class at the gym...then watch football :)

Favorite...
This is my favorite season. Especially when temperatures are in the 70 degrees. With the cooler nights it is great sleeping weather...followed by warm not HOT days. I know this time may not last long..or we could be lucky and it last all winter (not 70's of course). The only downside is that it is dark at 6pm so then I feel like going for a nap, which then distrupts my sleeping at night.
Anyway, the other benefit of this time of the year is that fruit is on sale. Yes, sad I know. Raspberries were so cheap I bought a whole case yesterday. Pomegrantes are also back out. These are definitely my two favorite fruits. I bought some vanilla yogurt and some amazing fat free vanilla frozen yogurt (which I tasted at someones house) and it is amazing. I can't even describe the taste but when you add some pomegrantes and raspberries to these...voila an amazing snack!!
Nothing else real exciting is going on. Broncos are not playing well so Sunday football is less exciting for me. Pedro just started a job at lifetime fitness in the cafe. Again the benefit of the membership is great...but he is also getting paid, unlike me. The funny thing is that he just found out he has to wear a "chef" coat and a black "hair" (though he has none) dew rag looking thing. Should be quite entertaining of a look. If we had a digital camera I would post a picture, but sadly we do not. However, if anyone has one they don't use or they got a new one..we would be welcome to borrow your other camera...we might even post some more pictures!
The only real exciting news is that I have registered for Ironman Florida, which is in Panama City Beach Florida. The race is November 7th, 2009, if anyone is interested in going :)
My training has consisted of running still. I am up to about 55 miles a week and I guess my legs get kind of tired by the end of the week but not horribly.
For Halloween we went to a friends house for some chili and Pedro had to take one of the kids to a few houses to trick-or-treat. Then we went to K and K's house and played phase 10 card game...which Pedro won.
Alright I think that completes the current news of the house.

What to do???
It is amazing the amount of time in a day when you are not training or recovering from training for a majority part of your day.
Today I got up had breakfast. Then I went outside and had my coffee while reading my book. Today was a very nice day and the dogs enjoyed the sun and lounging outside. After this leisure time I went for an hour easy run, as recovery from my 11mile run yesterday.
Ate a nice panini for lunch, while I was baking the pumpkin seeds in the oven.
Then off to the grocery store, for the one million time this week. Came home chopped vegetables for my "homemade" marinara sauce. Then made and cooked meatballs for our meatball sandwich for dinner tonight. I have never had a meatball sandwich so dinner tonight should be very interesting. Both of these items came from the ABS diet book and they sounded good. So, we will try it.
After preparing our dinner, I decided to clean the whole kitchen. Then vacuum the whole house and then cleaned the shower.
While cleaning I decided that homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies sounded good. So, I began gathering the ingredients for the yummy cookies. After gathering, I had to tape Pedro's ankle, since he is going to try and play pickup basketball tonight. Ok, back to the cookies. I made the cookie "dough" and have it refrigerated so we can eat them freshly out of the oven after dinner. I did eat quite a bit of the dough..mmmm.
Now a short nap before I get ready for basketball practice, then come home.... warm all the food for dinner. Watch tv and make the cookies for dessert :)

Pig Roast!
Sunday we had about 20 people over for a pig roast. Pedro spent the better half of Saturday picking up the pig from a farm and then marinating the pig. Sunday he woke up around 630 to begin the roasting. He created a "rotisserie" and it worked really well. His friend and him sat at the roaster for nearly 8 hours rotating the piggy.
All in all the party went very well. We worry with so many people at our house because we don't have a lot of room. We were blessed with some warm weather so we didn't have to be inside the whole time.
Below are the pictures from the roast:

Running...
Running is currently my sport of choice. Well, choice isn't exactly the word, but sport "in training". I am hoping to improve my pace in my aerobic zones. Sounds fun right??
Funny thing about my running is that I am now going to be the Running Club Coach for the new gym near the house. Yeah, funny because can you be a RUN coach if your RUN looks more like a WALK? Maybe I should call it the Walking Club? When the gym opens, in about a month maybe I will be a bit faster. If not then I will have to recruit what appear to be moderate speed walkers. Not speed walkers, since they are probably way faster!
The benefit of this new coaching gig, is not financial. It is the benefit of having a free gym membership to, what appears to be, an amazing gym. I will also be able to take masters swimming. Yes, I plan on taking masters to hopefully teach me to swim better. The last benefit will be to have a few group runs, though not as fun as a group run would be since I have to do the planning etc.
Then starting in January I will be the Tri Coach for the gym. Again, funny since I am looking for my own coach. But this is mainly for people that want to learn about tri's. Info about types of training, distances etc. Again, something that I have to plan and figure out what to coach.
As most people know I am on the computer researching training, tri's and stalking some really good athletes, so I'm pretty sure I can help people feel better about racing and learning what to do.
A last funny note, Pedro went to the store again. This time with a list. Amazingly, he returned with everything on the list (which is better than myself, I always forget something) and even bought the last few things which I forgot to put on the list! Maybe more shopping for him, though I will say I was kind of sad that he didn't get any good treats, I was kind of hoping for some surprise item I wouldn't buy.

FOOD!
Food is a big thing at our house. I mean we eat A LOT! I might actually say that we eat more when I am not in full training because I am home more and so I eat more times in a day.
The funny thing about this is grocery shopping. I hate grocery shopping. However, anytime Pedro goes to the store he comes home with some very interesting items. One day he brought home lactose free milk. Now I am not exactly sure what that is, but he did drink it all. I thought lactose was the thing that "made" milk...so who knows?
The best thing (not really) about him going to the store is that he comes home with some really good things. Not good, as in good for you, but good as in my current favorite; Double Stuf Oreo's (yes the bag has only one f on the stuff). I really think it might be a sin when I am eating my oreo's out of my Ironman glass. But they are dang good. The other thing he loves to buy is sugary cereal. Currently, we have cinnamon toast cruch. These are things I would never buy during actual training...and most people should never eat. As Kory pointed out Oreo's are probably one of the worst foods a person can eat...funny how the worst are always the best tasting.
Then I go to make lasagna tonight. He comes in and asks "is that enough sauce? is that enough cheese??" This is a usual thing if he happens to come in the kitchen while I am actually making the food. He has no idea, what or how much of anything goes into our dinners...so fastforward to tonight when we ate the lasagna, it was apparently so good that by the time I got home nearly half of the 9 by 11 pan was eaten.
Anyway, so no more shopping for Pedro. Back to the boring foods that I buy. And the trips to the store a few times a week.

Running has not been going great. I have not been running a significant distance but my heart rate just doesn't seem to be lowering at the same pace, which it definitely is suppose to be doing. The annoying thing is that it has gotten better on the bike, but just not on the run. Pre-hr monitor I was fast. This is a common statement. But I mean I could finish top 15, in my age, in the Bolder Boulder which has over 50,000 runners. Now, I'm malasses. Very frustrating. They say it could be because I trained for so long in an anaerobic state (pretty much my whole life of basketball and faster running). So, now I suck.
Well, again I went in for another bike fit. Getting quite annoyed, as I am sure they are with me. This time we changed my bike cleats and raised my seat. He asked if I was still growing since the bike seat doesn't seem to be the right height...again. We will see if that helps. The knee pain I had during the race was not pleasant, but at least it didn't hurt after I got off the bike, until the next day.
Right now I am trying to create my own running group. I might have some people that are interested. I think people are scared to run with me, but I am not sure why, since I am running as fast as some people can walk!
Here is a pict that my dad made of my race, no it is not me on the bike at mile 56..I am the person in the pink cap in the group of people headed to the swim.

Not a lot going on. I have been doing some running and weights with a few bike rides.
We went up to Glenwood for a few days. On the day we went up we stopped and did the hanging lake hike. It was very nice and definitely worth the hike.
After that we went to our cabin (which was pretty cool) and took the dogs down to the Colorado River. Polar loved the water but Stella was trying to avoid it best she could. We went downtown that night and had dinner at a brewery where I had some amazing root beer.
The next day we went to breakfast and then up to the adventure park. This was probably not worth the money but we did do the "alpine" slide, it was fun and fast but short. That was pretty much it for our trip, besides some walking downtown.
I am hopefully going to do some Vo2 testing soon so I can verify my heart rate zones and just continue to do some more running until my hr starts staying in the correct zone and I get a lot faster :)

I was no longer sore from the race on Tuesday. I have now gone back to lifting weights to add a little more muscle mass that I lost back on. I have also done minimal amount of elliptical and today I ran 10 min.
My current wish list (if anyone would like to donate please feel free).
Race Wheels (Zipps)
Computrainer (so my indoor riding can be beneficial)
A real life coach (not an internet one)

IM Race Report
I am officially an Ironman.
So, on Saturday, the day before the race you had to go in and drop off all of your stuff. This included your bike, your transition bags and special needs bags (if you used them). Each bag went to a separate room, from this room you would go to a changing tent, or in this case a room.
Race day:
Sunday I woke up at about 450am to eat some oatmeal before the race. I also had one of those good bagels from Panera, the Cinnamon crunch one. We drove to the site where they had a bus to transport us to the race. However, little did we know they dropped us off like a mile from the start, ugh. I got to the place changed into my wetsuit and headed down the helix to the water.
While in line to get into the water for the swim, I was wondering where all the females were, all I could see were blue caps (guys) with a few pink caps here and there. Not good I was thinking since I am not a fast swimmer and guys would just run me over! I got into the water and placed myself in the middle and waited for the cannon.
The swim started and it was a battle the entire time. I was getting elbowed in the head, I got kicked in the goggles (luckily straight on so I didn't lose the goggles) and it was horrible. I tried to swim on some people's feet but the people I choose didn't seem to know how to site buoys because everytime I looked up they had swam off course. The turns around the ends of the rectangle were horrible because everyone had to stop on the turn and get around the turn, it was like a 100 person pile-up. I swam the first loop in 34min. I was shocked! It must have been because I was trying to swim to get away from people! I finished the swim in 1hr 13min. My fastest swim ever.
After the swim you had to run up the helix (4 stories) and then go into the changing room. A lot of people were in the room so I didn't have anyone helping me to change and I wasn't about to wait. I changed into a longsleeve jersey, and put bike shorts on over my tri shorts. Once I got out, they direct you about another 50 yards to your bike. Which they have already taken out of the rack and are waiting for you. Transition times are slow...I think for everyone.
I headed out onto the bike with the intention of settling my heart rate down and getting ready to eat. However, there were some hills (not huge) at the beginning of the bike which wouldn't allow my hr to settle down. I wasn't sure if I should start eating or just wait. I waited a bit. I carried a drinkable yogurt and started with some of this. After I got out the 14 miles where the loops began, the hills also began. These hills were about 40 yard hills but went straight up. No momentum would work to carry you up the hills. There was also one long windy hill right before one of the biggest hills. The upside was that people lined the bigger hills to help you make it up. On my first loop I was in the wrong gear most of the time thinking that I could make it up the hills without being in my small chain, no such luck. On one of the bigger hills my chain fell off. I barely caught myself since I had no speed and got off my bike and fixed my chain. Then I had a hard time making it back up the hill.
The second loop was better because I knew what to expect and so I was downshifting before I reached the hills. I would say there were about 8 big hills. I ate cookies and my yogurt and picked up water, gatorade and bananas at the aid stations. There were thousands of people in one of the towns where the race actually bused people out to watch the bike.
Onto the run. After a transition, where the lady helped change my orthotics into my shoes for me (this was nice to not have to do) and someone put sunscreen on me, I was out the door.
The first 3 miles I ran too fast, my legs were surprisingly feeling good. I ran the first 3 in about 8 min miles, not good since I had so many miles left. At about the 6 mile marker a girl caught up with me and ran pretty much the rest of the run with me. She was a lifesaver. Anytime I felt like walking (which wasn't too much slower than my run) you didn't want to do that because you were running with someone else. I told her she could run ahead if she wanted but she said I was the only thing keeping her from walking (besides us walking the aid stations and the two big hills) and I told her that's good because you are the reason I am still running. After the first loop I pretended that I was "just" running a half-marathon and that it wouldn't be that long. My ankles were definitely hurting. What I would say is that when you are doing the run portion you just have to get through it. That's the best way I can explain it. With about 6 miles left in the run I started thinking I want to walk now..but I kept saying to myself "you ran 20 miles you can't wimp out and walk 6". I thought this all the way down till the end.
The spectators were great and there were sooo many! There were also a lot of volunteers that were out there trying to make it better as well.
I finished in 12:37. My watch said that throughout the whole race we ascended 6,240 feet!
I would definitely do one again, it's more of a lesson in pain management and strong mind control, not allowing the pain to get to you. On the bike I had the funny saying of "sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, but in the end the race is long and it is only with yourself". I thought this because it seemed I was around the same people a lot on the bike passing them, getting passed and I kept thinking it's not about racing and it's about doing your "own" plan.
Now some time off to let my legs recover and then hopefully I can find a coach that can help me do even better!
So, on Saturday, the day before the race you had to go in and drop off all of your stuff. This included your bike, your transition bags and special needs bags (if you used them). Each bag went to a separate room, from this room you would go to a changing tent, or in this case a room.

Race Day is Almost Here!
This will be my last pre-race post, unless I have time once I am in Madison.
This last week I have done a short workout everyday. Either a short 30 min (2000yd) swim, or a 40 min run. I had to turn in my bike on Saturday for shipping so I have been without my bike.
I am feeling good. I have slept A LOT and layed around a lot. Today I also got a massage. I leave tomorrow at 930am. I am not nervous yet. I thought it was funny when Marc called today and said that I would be ok if I could just make it through the marathon, which as he said "would be very hard". Funny because the marathon is at the end and of course I can make it, if I get through the marathon..lol. I know what he was meaning, but it made me laugh none the less.
Right now I am hoping for 70 degree weather and no rain. So, everyone should think like this and help to make it true. I do now have a few rain coats I borrowed from a friend in case I need one so that does make me feel better.
If you want to track the race you can track it on: www.ironman.com or www.ironmanwisconsin.com (OR CLICK ON THE IRONMAN LOGO on Left)
I found a few quotes that I liked so I will end with these:
"Fear is probably the thing that limits performance more than anything - the fear of not doing well, of what people will say. You've got to acknowledge those fears, then release them." --Mark Allen
"Life, to me, is a series of false limits and my challenge as an athlete is to explore those limits"--Lance Armstrong
"Excellence is caring more than others think wise; risking more than others think safe. Dreaming more than others think is practical and EXPECTING more than others THINK is POSSIBLE."
WISH ME LUCK!!!!

Big Monkey's BDAY!
How do I spend my day off? I spend it with Big Monkey..or recently aka GORILLA. After he worked out (of course) we took a family day trip (Pedro,Stella, Polar and myself) headed up to the outlets and then on to Breckenridge to walk through some shops and eat a giant cookie sandwich with cookie dough in between. Then off to his favorite (our favorite) restaurant Outback, only to be recognized from our other home, the gym, by our waitress. Anyway, here is a photo of him from our day (If you can't tell by the photo it is a monkey hat).

Taper Week One of Two.
This is the first of two taper weeks leading up to my race.
Monday I rode my bike for about 4 hours and rode about 75 miles than had a brick run of about 3 miles. My heart rate average for the bike has been really low at about 136 my aerobic minimum. It does elevate on larger hills but that would be the average. I haven't seen a huge difference in my hr on the run though, which is why I predict a long run time for my race...but maybe I will be lucky?
Tuesday I swam 3,500 meters. Then sat around the house eating and watching tv.
Wednesday, today, I got up late and swam 2,250 meters. Went home changed clothes and biked for a speed bike for 45 min (avg hr 146)..I was pushing a larger gear and pushing more on the hills without worrying about my hr. After this I went home and had a shake and some guac and went out for my speed run. Today was suppose to be 2.5 mile sprint on the straights jog the curves...so instead I went back to the hills and ran hills/stairs for 20 min (estimated 2.5 mile time) and sprinted up and jogged back down. After this I had lessons and practice...then finally some dinner. It may sound like a lot of working out, but time wise it is actually really short, only 2.5 hours or so. Intensity was high, but duration was low.
I am suppose to have tomorrow off, but I am trying to figure out how to get in all of my workouts before I have to turn my bike in on Sunday. Sunday we also, hopefully, have the CU/CSU game to go to. This makes my Sunday a dillema, do I use Sunday as my day off?? Or do I use Sunday as a day to train since there is a chance for a lot of standing at the game, depending on where our seats are. If it is a recovery day it would be pretty pointless if I spent a few hours just standing there. Anyway, I have quite a few workouts to figure out and include recovery days, since I have to turn my bike in on Sunday, it makes it a little more difficult.
That's it for now. I'm sleepy...

My workouts are winding down some. My rides and runs getting shorter by the day. It is kind of strange that a 5 hour bike ride is exciting to me...but that is comparing it to a 7hr ride. I would say the same thing about running my long run was 3 hours and now it is all the way down to 2hours. Yes, I agree...2 hours! I have been trying to do more of my running in the "heat" of the day to try to adapt a bit more to the heat instead of avoiding it like I have done in the past. Hopefully, this will also help me :)
I am still not exceptionally fast on the running. Maybe it has to do with the amount of sugar I eat, or something else. Again they do say that it takes 18months to see some "real" results. I haven't been very tired on these rides or runs.
However, I have had some semi significant knee pain on the bike. This week I have gone in for two adjustments to help with this. I do not usually feel the pain until about 3 hours but then it is really there. P says it is because I have bad knees...I don't think that is the cause..since I don't have it doing anything else (knock on wood).
This next week the workouts get a little bit different. I have 3 days of workouts, all consisting of a swim, bike and run..but not too long of workouts. Each day followed by a complete day off.
My mother wants to know how long I plan on taking for my race, but I have no idea. I would say that if I swam in anything UNDER 1:20 I would be very happy, but very unlikely as I am at about 1:35.
The bike is another tricky one. They say it is extremely hilly. I have no idea. The fastest I have averaged over this type of distance was 17.9mph (6hr 15min). In a race you would hope I could go a bit faster, but at the same time, if it is really hilly then possibly slower.
They say the run at this race usually has the slowest marathon times, because people push too hard on the bike and have a hard time on the hilly run. This would be another area that I have no idea on. I have thought I could possibly do a 5hr and 15min marathon (yes extremely slow, but I am trying to be realistic).
If I did these times I would be at: 13 hours and 5min. Would I be happy with this time? Not really. But I guess I should say I would be happy because it would mean that I FINISHED the race. We only have 2 weeks before we will find out!

Rattlesnake Report
Today was a pretty good day for racing. Not too hot, maybe a little too cold, since my feet were numb most of the race. But all in all a good temperature.
The swim was only 500 meters. I did this race two years ago and I swam this in 14 min. That was embarassing. Anyway, this time I swam it in 7:04..however the time says 8min but this included my wetsuit strippers and my run up the hill to transition. Anyway, it was a time trial start and I apparently decided to jump on the girl that started ahead of me. I am not use to being "faster" than some swimmers. I am usually working just to keep up. Anyway, the swim was cold. Then my ear plug started to come out, so I fixed that. I kept sighting the bouys very well. I then fixed my goggles, always some issue. Then finished the swim a little dizzy, not sure why...but it was my fastest swim ever!
I left for the bike and it was cold. You had to go slow around the turns because the road was wet and rocky. It was a very hilly course. Again it is hard to know if you are doing well when you are passing a lot of people. Was I moving fast?? Well, not as fast as I could have I guess...but fast enough. I was passed by one guy on the bike near the end of the bike and so I was trying to keep up with him to transition.
I got in and changed to my running shoes, still unable to feel my feet. It is a weird sensation running on numb feet! I was trying to remain at a good pace. Faster than what I did at my last sprint, since I had lost by 20sec I wasn't going to let that happen again. I was at about mile one when I saw the first runner coming back. I thought this is good, since there were 309 people, at least, that started before me. I didn't stop for any water, my stomach wasn't happy. I had changed up my race morning meal..to a shake and coffee...probably too much of both. Anyway, I was passed by another male racer on the run. We got to the turnaround which consisted of flamingos and a sign, no timing mat, no cone, just turning around on the sidewalk. I'm glad we are honest??? Anyway, while I was on my way out running I kept looking at the runners coming back to make sure none were in my age. I didn't see any. I finished and took first in my age and 5th female overall and 43rd I think overall.
I was happy with my swim, ok with my bike...and I ran a faster run. The weather probably contributed to all of it. I wouldn't say that it was unexpected that I win a sprint race. All in all I should win, with all the training I do, compared to what most people probably do. I was happy to have my first win though and I beat the next person in my age group by 3 minutes.

Hills
I have read other people's blogs (yes I am a blog stalker) saying how they get so nervous before races. I wouldn't say that I am nervous before races. If I have done the distance before I am not very nervous at all. However, for a race like my upcoming Ironman, I am a little nervous. More nervous for the run probably. Mainly, because I have never run 26.2 miles before, even on my long run days. I have no idea what that will be like. I guess my goal will be to focus on one mile at a time..26 water stations.
Anyway, I have been running hills and stairs in attempt to be prepared for hills. I will say that if I am not better at running the hills I will be very disappointed, with all the work that I am doing with these. It's funny because when I am running them I think of my kids at practice that want to quit when we are running sprints. If I wasn't there they would quit, they always have some excuse. They need to come watch me run hills/stairs. I want to quit, but I am running for time. I could go all the way and all the way down (going down the stairs gives some recovery time) but I mix it up so I don't get any recovery time, until it is actual recovery time. I run every second of every run, even when I don't want to. Then when it comes to recovery time, when that is over, no matter what I start again (my hr has lowered but everyone wants more rest). I think to myself, how many people would be out here running the stairs and running exactly the time that they are suppose to, how hard do other people work??
Anyway, I enjoy my hill/stair running. Not because it is fun, but because in my mind I am doing something that not a lot of other people would be doing, or working as hard at it, so I guess I think it gives me some advantage (when I don't have many other advantages!).

Last week I was battling some sort of stomach virus. I still managed to get in all my "key" workouts. Long Bike, run, swim, speed run, speed swim but not much else.
Monday of this week, I swam 6,000 meters or about 3.75 miles. It took me an embarassingly slow time of about 2.5hours.
Today I went out for my long bike. I got up at about 615 and started biking. It was pretty chilly out in the morning and then of course it warmed up. Today my heart rate continued to be quite low on the bike and I managed 102miles in 5hrs 48min. The exciting part of my ride today was that I saw a vulture. Yes, a vulture! I was riding along and a giant bird was in the street ahead of me...it looked kind of like a turkey from a distance. Once I got closer it looked just like the vultures out of the cartoons (the only place I have seen one). It was eating some road kill. It appears to have been a turkey vulture, known that way because it looks kind of like a turkey.
After I got home I had a short run. Today the run was not so great. My legs were not tired just the hr, which was odd since I had such a low hr on the bike. It was probably a combination of the heat and the fact that I ran out of water the last 20min of my ride.

Today I rode 114 miles. In about 6.5hours. Two of the hours were spent on indoor riding. The first hour of the ride was inside just to really warmup and let the unusually cool morning warm up. The second hour was after being outside for about3.5 hours and some strange guy wouldn't stop talking to me. So, I had to tell him I was done with my ride and going home. He came all the way down to about a block from my house before he changed direction. Then I rode inside for another hour in case he was nearby waiting for me to come back out. Then I finished up the ride outside. The ride was ok. It was windy when I was out early and the it actually warmed up more than I had expected, with some wind. But I can't complain because it was better than 100 degrees!
After I finished with the bike I got off and ran about 30min. It was one of my first brick runs that my heart rate was actually controllable. Usually, I get off the bike and it just skyrockets. However, today it was much better, despite the heat.
One lesson learned is that a breakfast of a bagel and peanut butter is not my breakfast of choice. I had a stomachache most of the ride, so back to oatmeal and yogurt.
That's it for now. It was a long day for me today, I got up at 6am to start riding.

Today I had a sprint race. The downside was that I started at 815, which made it quite hot out on the run.
Swim:I decided to wear my wetsuit so I can work on wetsuit transitions. They had changed the course to be counter-clockwise so that was different. The problem was that going out to the first buoy the sun was so bright, even with the tinted goggles, that I couldn't actually see where the buoy was. I was just swimming with the people because I had no idea where it was. I can't imagine if I had clear goggles. Once I reached the first buoy I had to stop and clear my goggles, they had fogged up. Then I got moving. A lot of slow swimmers, which must mean they were quite slow, since I myself am slow, were getting in the way. I finished the swim and exited up the ramp.
I felt that my transition went pretty quickly. The place I had to put my bike was the furthest away from the swim and also the furthest from the bike start and finish. That is really annoying because you have to run barefoot on the rocky cement to your bike, then I had to actually carry my bike shoes to the bike start, because it was so far and I didn't want to slip. I still do not know how to get on my bike with my shoes attached and get them on once I am going.
Biking went well. I was trying to stay above 22mph the entire ride. The downside of the bike are the turnarounds, that seem to clog up and then you have to basically stop to turn and then go. My favorite phrase on the bike became "on your left". I passed so many people I don't even know. Some people were quite dumb and as I am yelling, "ON YOUR LEFT" they would just stay there and I would have to slow down, because inevitably it was when someone on the otherside heading back was passing, so there was no room to go on their left. I finished the bike feeling good.
I took off my shoes on the bike and then ran to the transition, again forever away. Again I felt like they were decently fast transitions. Then off to the run. The run start was right near my bike so that was good.
The first mile is a gradual uphill. I was looking for my family, but they were nowhere to be found. Someone in the crowd commented on my "holy cow, fast pace" but really I wasn't going all that fast, that should tell you how fast most people were going. I wanted to go out normal and then on the turnaround come back faster. I stopped and got some water at two of the stations because it was so hot, I felt like the sun was actually burning me. Anyway, I ran fast back. I passed a lot of people and was passed at the end by some girl that was going way faster than I was. I'm just going to think that she started before me..haha.
I finished 15th overall (actually 13th, two RELAY teams beat me). Third in my age group (however, the first place person in my age group doesn't have a bike time? and was a slower swimmer and runner???) So, I am going with 2nd in my age and I lost by stupid 20 seconds..ugh. I think I could have gone faster, if I would have known how close I was to finishing at the top. I had no idea how fast I was going or if anyone was going faster because I didn't see too many people going fast. I guess I should have just gone as fast as possible even without knowing.
Funny note. My "fast transitions" were actually REALLY SLOW. I am telling you I had to go SOOO far to get my bike after the swim, just to turn around and bring my bike back near the swim start, not fair. I had the 4th fastest bike and the 29th fastest run. And of course I was a slow swimmer at 126th!

A week of long workouts.
Monday we had games in the morning. I had, had some recovery time because over the weekend I did very little because of the amount of games we played. Anyway, Monday we played than I went and lifted. After lifting I went for my moderate run of 1hr 38 min. It was a nice evening out when I ran.
Tuesday I did my first swim outside. I know it is sad that it was my first swim outside. It was much more enjoyable, if swimming can ever be called that. However, it seemed to take more time than when I swim at the gym. I swam 3,500 for a speed swim. After the swim I went and ate oatmeal then decided to head out for my long run. This was for 3 hrs and 8min. How far did I run?? Not far enough. Only about 19miles. I was definitely leg and feet sore after this run. It was still very hot out since I started my run at about 430pm. Anyway, I slept with my SKINS on and then the next day I woke up, unwilling to do my long ride.
Weds. I changed my mind at about 1000 that I would go out for my ride. A moderate ride that would last around 3hrs. I went out and got stung in the butt my a wasp, not once, but twice. Kind of funny since I was just stung a few days ago. I am thinking my detergent must spell soooo good that the wasps can't stay away..? Anyway, it was very hot out. I went for 3hours and 10min then came home and rode for 2hours more on my trainer. In the end I rode about 94miles, so that was my long ride of the week.
Thursday, we had practice today and I also worked. One of the few days I have had lessons, since nobody has any money. So, after practice I went and swam 5,000, which took me nearly 2 hours. After further questioning I found out it is a METER pool and not a YARD pool. The pool I was swimming in was a Yard pool and was probably about a yard short. So, this swim really was equal to about 3.13 miles..which is further than the race. This was my long swim of the week. Then I went and got a massage. It was very nice :)
Now off to bed. I am not sure what I will do tomorrow since I am doing a sprint this weekend. Probably, weights, maybe a swim, maybe a run...not sure.

Yesterday I went and swam a speed swim of 3,500 yds. Then I came home had a shake and left for speed running. I ran 12x400 followed by 4x100 plus a warmup and cooldown. Anyway, on about my 5th 400 I was greeted by a angry wasp (or bee, or something) that stung my quad. Maybe it was karma for wearing those tiny little running shorts. Anyway, with the added epinephrine I ran about 10seconds faster on that lap. I ran all of my 400's in about 1min 34seconds..followed by 40 seconds of recovery. Not too bad I guess, considering all the super slow running I have been doing. I read somewhere that it takes 18 MONTHS for heart rate training to begin to have a "real" impact...and well I'm at about 8 months...YEAH!! Only 10months more before some improvement??
Anyway, today I lifted and then ran home from the gym again. Today was HOT! My watch said it was an average of 95 degrees. I am trying to adapt to the heat, again another thing that takes time for your body to adapt to. While in the process of dealing with heat, you have to slow down more to stay in the hr range. So, really it is quite fun running sooo slow, no not really.
I treated myself to a massage tonight, which hopefully will help the tired legs. I was also informed by P that in my next race I need to cut about 5min off my last sprint race..but I am not sure he realizes that I am training for a 140.6 mile race and that is a lot of SLOW training..but ok.
This weekend is going to be difficult to get any training in, I have a bball tourney with a minimum of 5 games a day.

Sleeping...
We all know how much I like to sleep. I would say that I am quite possibly one of the best sleepers. However, the sun has been interupting my sleep, in quite a few ways. First of all, the sun arrives BRIGHT and early now. Not beneficial to me, because even though I have "black out" curtains, they do anything but completely BLACK out my room. So, I have been waking up earlier. I know some of you (kory probably) is saying, you are waking up so you must be done sleeping..or maybe you are saying "you sleep too much". However, I have not found this to be the truth. The other problem with the sun, is that if I have a long workout I have to start early in the morning to accomplish it...needless to say this week I have yet to get in my long bike ride. Tired. Yes, I am tired. Maybe it is from the travel, maybe it is the bright sun waking me up, maybe I am not getting the right foods, or maybe the addition of speed work and my longest bike and runs are all catching up to me.
Then today I was put in an especially bad mood when I was woken up at 845, by P, to go to the gym. We were going to go at 1015 so I had time to swim, shower and then get to practice. However, he thought I needed to get up at 845 to be ready by 1015?? Then for about every 10min after he woke me up, he kept asking "why are you not up yet??". WHY YOU ASK? Because it is 845, because I am tired, because I finished a 17mile run at 945pm. So, needless to say, today was not a good day.
Last night I ran and discovered that when there is no sun, but still heat, I lose about 0.5oz of sweat per min...yes per minute. That means in order to replinish all that I have lost I would have to drink 30oz of water an hour. On the bike this is possible. However, while running, it is not even remotely possible.
Anyway, I am tired...and it is 11pm and I am ready to go to bed, with hopes to wake up to a cloudy, sunless day tomorrow. I know during the winter when I complain that it is dark and cold, I can look back and read this, I will laugh..but the heat and the sun are annoying me right now.
I guess my quote for the day would be something like: "Everyone performs well when the conditions are perfect, but a true test is how well you perform when the conditions are not perfect".

SORE!
After my lifting yesterday I am very sore. My chest is sore from my bench and my butt is sore from squats. Then today I decided I would do my speed running. I took to the track at about 11. I was thinking today was going to be an 80 degree day, but no such luck. I had to run 1 set of 12min, 1 set of 9min, 6 sets of 1min then 6 sets of 30secs.
I ran the long sets on the stairs to build some leg strength. Then the 1min sets, I alternated sprints with stairs. Then to finish it off I ran the 30sec sets all on sprints. It was 92 degrees according to my car when I finished. I drank a liter of water and with a warmup and cooldown I was out there for an hour. After this I headed to the gym for a swim.
I thought a swim was a good idea to help cool off and prevent my usual headaches. It did feel good, but my sore chest didn't help on my stroke and my sore butt and tired legs didn't help on the kick sets. However, I still swam about 3,600yds (was suppose to be 4,000) and it took forever! Now, I need to go to sleep because I am very sleepy.

I am really happy to be finished with my travels. This summer we are going to one less out of state tournament, thank goodness. My time spent in Chicago was similar to my workouts in Oregon. A lot of time spent running. I actually completed my long run in Chicago..and the longest run in my life. I ran for 2hrs and 40 min. Half of that time was spent outside, until I realized it was a bit too dark to be out by myself. Then straight to the tred for the rest of it. My legs are a bit tired from all the running I have done the last two weeks, but hopefully I will recover soon.
Today I woke up after nearly 12 hours of sleep and had to rush to practice. We practiced then went over to Subaru to get my headlight changed, which then of course turned into a much more expensive outing. Which included a new battery cable, headlight and front brakes. GREAT FUN! Then we went to the gym and lifted. Today was a change up in my lifting to add some heavier stuff. Oddly enough without having lifted more than 20's on each side for bench in the last 4 or 5 months..I was up to 40's on each side today, on my third set. Not sure how I don't lose an extreme amount of strength since I don't do anything heavy..and I only lift twice a week, at most. After I finished lifting P was still lifting, since he takes FOREVER! Instead of waiting or wasting time on the ellip or tred like usual, I decided to run home. It was quite hot out still and I had no idea how far I was going, but thought it was a better use of my time.
I have decided that stress is definitely added to my running and working out in general when it requires a process...almost like pavlov's response. When I am at home and go for a run, Stella even knows the usual process. It includes: Drinking some water, putting on "running" shorts (as opposed to bball shorts), changing orthotics into "running" shoes (as opposed to nice running shoes), putting on my road id, the ipod, and then finally putting on the heart rate monitor. This last piece of equipment may be my new least favorite thing. BHRM time (before heart rate monitor) my running felt aerobic and I ran quite fast. I even placed high in long distance and medium distant races. However, AHRM I am now a slow runner. Yes, I understand that racing for upwards of 12hrs requires aerobic running, but good lord, how slow do I have to go?? If I could run for 13 miles anaerobically and be fast, maybe I should just do that..instead of my plod onward.
Anyway, I strayed from my point. Today's run (beneficial or not, who knows) consisted of none of my stress from pavlovs response. Instead it was a spur of the moment decision, with my bball shorts on, no ipod and best of all no HRM! I did however use my timer on my watch to make sure I ran a good amount of time (1hr30min or so). While out running I realized how nice it was to be free of looking down to make sure my heart was in the right zone. Instead I ran with how I felt, no constraints. It was actually a pretty good run. In the end I ran about 8.22 miles at about a 9 min pace (yes, excrutiatingly slow still) but without all the strings attached. I may do more of these run's from the gym, maybe even without my timer, now that I know the distance.

Riding in HELL!
Today I got up at 645...yes if you are reading this and think that I must be referring to waking up at 645PM..you are wrong. I got up early so I could have breakfast and go for my long bike ride. I wanted to get in some good miles before I could feel the devils breath. I started riding at 745..again AM not PM. It started off good, about 70 some degrees and a light wind. The only downside to rides at this time of the day is TRAFFIC. Much more traffic with people going to work and I was very aware since people are probably half asleep while driving to work. Anyway, I rode out to the Foothills Hwy today. However, when I arrived there (after multiple detours and stop lights) I had ridden for about 2hours and 40 minutes. So, I decided turning around on a highway would be difficult. Instead I went back and took another rode as far north as it would go and came back. At this point, I felt as though I had made it into hell.
Hell isn't so horrible. Except that everything I am drinking becomes hot, which is kind of gross. Then I know I am sweating but there isn't any sweat so I am not really aware of the amount of fluid loss. Then at about the 3.5 hour mark I start getting my "heat rash" on my quads. I see it beggining and I think, man I have a lot more time out here this could be bad.
Then the devils breath begins. I can feel him breathing down my back..he blows in my face and it is nothing but HOT HOT air. I guess when you are riding in Hell and trying to get back before the Devil catches you..you need to start earlier. He followed me for about 2.5 hours and then of course I look down and realize I have to ride Riverdale another time because I am short about 20 minutes of a 6 hour ride. I seem to ride faster home....probably because I know the devil is chasing me! So I have to ride back and forth on Riverdale..and at this point I have drank about 2.5 liters of water (still not enough) a bottle of Gatorade and I have just a sip left of my (now near boiling) limeade. I was soo thirsty but I couldn't wimp out and go less than 100 miles. So, I sucked it up and ended up with a ride just shy of 6 hours and 104 miles.
I got home had a shake and a little food and headed out to the gym where I went and lifted. I wasn't all that tired, I must be getting use to the long rides..before I would need a nap after such a long ride. But of course I did nap this evening after eating.

To travel...
Such a horrible thing to me...traveling during the month of July puts me in quite a hole training wise.
On one side it isn't so horrible because I get in a huge amount of running. Running is where I am slightly worried during the Ironman. Such a long distance...one of which, I have never run, even stand-alone.
So, off to Oregon I went on Friday and I ran and lifted before I left, ran later that evening (only for a total of 1hr20min). The next day we had games but I still ran for 1hr30min. Sunday I decided to run stairs, my speed work. This time it was 4 sets of 3 min followed by 2 sets of 6min and then 6 sets of 1min. My calves were sore..well actually they are still sore. Monday, I took a recovery day of running and ran for 40minutes. Tuesday and Weds each had 1hr runs. So, I am getting in some good moderate running but need to get in a long run..however, running on a treadmill is not the same as outside and I need to get the long run outside. Plus, running on a tred for nearly 3hrs would be HORRIBLE!
I am back for about 40 hours total and I am hoping to get in a looonnnggg bike ride, even though they say the temperatures will be record high (of course!). Then going to try to get in some weights, a swim possibly..and then Friday before I leave get in my long run. Yeah that is a lot of cramming. Let's see how it goes. I am in Chicago from Friday till late on Tuesday. Then that will really be it for travel for July...thank goodness!
So, that's my update. I am already tired of eating out, every meal...and trying not to eat ice cream too much, since that is what my players want after games.

This is the busy time of the year for me...with practice during the middle of the day it is very annoying. Plus, just returning from Europe, trying to fit in workouts, then visitors and now I am off to Oregon and Chicago for nearly 10 days straight.
Working out during this time is very frustrating. I want to get in my long rides because I know I can't do any of the biking while I am gone...but then the swimming gets short changed which is my worst sport (which is not getting better)...
Then the heat. If I am not up early running outside in mid afternoon is ridiculous. I think I would have to walk to the whole run outside because of the heat. Today I rode for only 3 hours and have a "heat rash" all over my quads...plus I can't carry near enough water. On top of that I "fell over" today. My poor bike got only a small injury and I got about the same. I'm sure it was entertaining to all who saw me take my slow motion tumble. Then I was annoyed because I lost half the water on my bike in the aero bottle.
Anyway, tomorrow I am off to Oregon and I hope to get some good workouts in there..even if it means running the stairs at the hotel. I am in Oregon from the 5th to the 9th..home late the 9th..home the 10th and leave the 11th for Chicago until the 15th. Sounds like fun??? Yeah not to me either.

Training has been going ok. I have had a lot to do since returning from France. When I got back, I biked on Tuesday for 5hr and 15 min and 91 miles. The problem I have biking is not that I am tired..more that I am bored and run out of places to ride for that long. I rode to the Boulder Res on some back roads and had to call Kory to verify how to get back since I just happened to end up there. It was hot and I ran out of water and had to stop at an office to get some. Then I got home and had "heat rash" on my quads from the extreme heat.
The next day I got up early and ran 2hrs and 12 minutes. Lifted and then biked for an hour. Then I had swimming and biking but then we played in a tourney and I couldn't workout because I was gone all day then had Kurts bday party. Sunday I had games then went and did speed running. My first anaerobic work of this "session". I ran stairs instead of sprints to build some leg power. I did 8 sets of 2minutes of stairs with 1 min recovery. It was like 90 degrees out. My last set I wanted to do as many sets of stairs that I had done on my first set when I wasn't tired so I pushed as hard as I could and did get the same amount...however, I thought I might throw up..lol. Then we cooled down and I went home ate and took a nap. I got up with a small headache and went out for speed biking...just for an hour. I came home with a severe headache and was so bad I couldn't do anything but lay in the dark. I took my migraine stuff and it made me dizzy and nauseas....so it was fun.
Today not sure what I will get done. I had lessons early, need to be cleaning now since we have a visitor arriving...and then I have the visitor most of the day after I pick them up here soon.
That's it for now.

Europe Travel
I just returned from, what seemed to be an eternity in Europe. London, Paris and mostly Reze, France to be more specific. It was only 8 days but I don't want to go back anytime soon.
Our travel started off fine with a direct flight from Denver to London. We took a boat tour the day we arrived in London and then had dinner and went to bed early. The next day we got up and I went and ran for 50min...then we went and watched the Changing of the Guard then took a bus tour. I wanted Starbucks which was right outside the hotel but the line was out the door. Our sleeping pattern seemed to fall into place quite well, however our hunger pattern for the first few days was off, we were hungry at night when it was day time over here.
During our bus tour we decided to get off and have lunch at one of the stops where somebody just died (litteraly right as we got there paramedics etc pulled up and closed the road) someone was smashed or jumped from a building. We ate lunch and then headed to the bus which said they had no plan of moving. So, we had pastries and came back and they still were not going anywhere. We walked and caught another but later down the road. We realized we were on the "wrong" bus (one had a tour guide one had headphones) so we got off to wait for a bus with a tour guide. 40 minutes later still no tour guide bus so we got back on, annoyed and did the headphone guide. After this tour we did the London Eye (not all that exciting) just a huge ferris wheel thing to have views on. Then dinner at an amazing pub, walnut crusted chicken..mmm.
The next day we got up took a taxi to the eurorail and headed to Paris. Arriving in Paris we took another taxi to our hotel then went to meet the team. We went to the Arch de Triumph and then off to the Eiffel Tower...where we were told we could sit four 4 hours and wait for the sun to go down. Needless to say, we left and took off on our own tours. We went to Notre Dame, where there was actually a service going on..and then to Montmarte. Then had dinner at a small cafe that was very good. Then back to our hotel that was expensive but tiny.
The next morning we took another train for two hours to Nantes. However, we were waiting to see if I needed to buy a ticket and then the train was sold out. We were lucky one parent accidentally bought an extra ticket so I had one. We got to Nantes and the tournament hosts met the team. They informed me that M and B had to stay with a host team or couldn't play. So, I said that's fine we will just have a long vacation then...after lots of drama they stayed with me and it wasn't that far of a drive (40min). We went to practice after I got my car (Alpha Romaeo)...While they practiced I went for a 55min run, running around a large block so I wouldn't get lost. Then they said we had to go eat at the gym..well they thought I was a player so I could eat with them..but all it was, was a baguette with one piece of meat in it..yeah like that would fill anyone up! Then they played a game for 2.5 hours the longest game ever.
The next few days followed similar patterns, practice, baguette and games. I was starving the kids were starving. So much so we settled for McDonalds a few times because we had no other choice...sandwiches were all premade and on baguettes and all the menu's were in french and what we could deduce was gross. We ate so many pastries the thought is disgusting to me...ugh.
I had a few arguments about the food issue and the coach seems to have no concept of time being wasted, so I was annoyed most of the trip. We went one night to a bbq and realized they were making blood sausage and other sausage...GROSS and it was already 1030 (the sun doesn't go down until about 11) and they hadn't even started so we left to go back to the hotel.
The best meal we had in Reze was Dominos! It was soo good. I wonder where people get their vegetables and protein from..it all seemed like white bread to me.
The last night we left the gym early (we were suppose to watch the final game) instead we went back to our hotel on the ocean...our first real time in the town of Pornic. We walked around the town had a good meal at another small cafe and some awesome ice cream.
We went to bed late and then slept for about 3 hours and got up to head to the train station. We returned the car and got on the train and had a 3 hour train ride into Paris. After the train we caught our flight for another 8.5 hours. Arrived in DC and had an "on the runway" delay because it was raining. Then was redirected through WY because of rain in Colorado. Got to DIA and then the jetway wouldn't come out...so our 3 hour flight was about 4 hours. We figured out we were traveling for almost 24 hours. It was a long day.
My workouts while I was in Europe:
50 min run
56 min run
40 min am run, 40 min pm run
60 min run
40 min run
Not too much but I hope it maintained my fitness. I feel like I lost my "altitude" ability so it should be interesting when I start training this week.

This week...
Workouts:
Monday 4 hour bike (75 miles) + 18 min run(slow 1.76miles)
Tues: Long Run on Tread (too hot for me!) 2 hrs (11miles, but who knows treds are not very accurate and I did inclines up and down throughout)
Tues: later in the day I rode my trainer inside Easy Bike 45min (12miles)
Weds: Weights followed by Tempo Swim of 3,500 yds (78min).
Weds: later in the day Easy Run 28min (2.7miles)
The bike ride this week was interesting because my average heart rate was only 139 for the ride. It seemed quite easy and I had a hard time getting my heart rate up. I followed this with a brick run which I thought might be good since my hr was so low biking..but not luck there my avg for this horribly slow run was 161 avg...not good. I guess you need to get use to running off the bike. Again my legs were not tired but my hr was high.
The long run on tues was done inside because it was 90plus degrees outside. Yeah I know I need to learn to run in the heat, but like I have said give me a gradual build up to that heat. My avg hr for this was 148 for the whole run and I was going up and down so the miles are deceiving. The easy bike I did later so I could watch the NBA finals while biking.
Today I had the tempo swim. It is a long tempo swim, I swam for the main set 6 sets of (3x50 with 5 second rest, 1x200 easy 1 min rest). Then I had to swim 20x25. I swam all of these 25 yards in 21-23 seconds..so I think that isn't too bad..? Especially after having swam nearly 3,000yds before doing those.
I also lifted right before swimming today. I just returned from an easy run of 28 minutes with an avg hr of 148 (for easy days it has to be under 150 the whole time). It was really windy out but I tried to run parallel with the wind for most of it.
A random thought. To me training is finding a balance between what your body can aborb and what quantity is needed to be done to reach your max, without starting to go backwards. This will be interesting to me since I ran a half marathon and took 6th or something in my age group while only running about 12 miles a week and having only run 10 miles one time, in my whole life, prior to racing. So, hopefully the amount of work I am doing translates into better times :)
I have a lot to do this week, training wise and "work" wise. I leave Sunday for Europe and need to do a lot of little things before I leave.

Today I had my long ride planned. I was going to wake up early and head out for a 5.5 hr ride followed by a 30 min run. Instead I woke up to wind slamming my curtains open and close at about 645am. I got up and checked my email to see what my "riding partner" for the day had to say. He said it was super windy and he wasn't sure how it would go...so I agreed and went back to bed.
I woke up to wind still at my house. Usually, when it is windy at my house it is hurricane like outside of my neighborhood. Then I pulled up the weather on the computer and they said 6mph wind. The news said light wind. Remembering back to a previous post..which said "trust the weatherman". I decided to go out. Instead of venturing too far from my house I stayed close and rode Riverdale back and forth...yes multiple times. I am glad I can pretend in my head that I hadn't ridden the 18 mile road before and so it wasn't horrible. I did end up with a 3hr57min ride 73 miles. Then I got home and had to do a "brick run". So, I put on my shoes and out the door I went for what I thought was to be a run. Well, it ended up being more of a brisk walk. It was my first real brick...and my first heat of the day run. Not so great. My legs were not tired at all my heart rate was high and it actually felt quite high.
I have decided I need new nutrition on the bike because after the 3 hour point my hr starts going up and my rpe (rate of perceived effort) stays low...so it must be a nutrition thing.
That was the exciting part of the week so far :)

Haven't posted in awhile...not for any reason other than it is really hot upstairs in my house and I don't like to sit at my computer for too long if I can help it! AC is going on soon!
Last week the most eventful thing was that I did my long bike on Friday and rode 90 miles (18.1 avg speed 4h58min). That is the longest ride so far of my life. Yes, of my life..lol. I rode with someone else and it did make me ride faster, however on the way back my hr was a little high for some strange reason. It could have been that I ran out of limeade :)
Sunday I did a lot...I ran 4miles, biked 20, swam 3,000yds and took yoga. Not a lot of distance but some good quality workouts.
Today I lifted, biked for 1.5hrs TR...and ran 30 min earlier on tred and hoping to get another 30 min if the sky clears from the thunderstorm.
Leave for France/London in two weeks so I want to get a lot done.

I swam 4,000 yds today. Not quite sure if I have ever swam that distance before, maybe once..? It is 2.3 miles. My race will be 2.4 miles or about 4,200 yds. It took me 1 hr and 27 minutes. Some people get out of the water in 50 minutes in the long distances...but me..slowly plodding along. I guess on a positive note I get 2 hrs and 20 minutes to swim the distance...so I guess at least I know I can finish before they kick me out! To make today worse I swam next to some really fast lady. She made me look like I wasn't even moving.
After I swam I had an easy 30 minute run with a low heart rate. Easy days have lower heart rates, moderate days..well moderate hr..long days you are suppose to run the gammet in the heart rate up to your max..and tempo days are staying close to your max the whole time. Easy runs are frustrating to me because I have to go even slower. I have to be a believer I will get faster...just annoying since whatever I had built before I lost when I couldn't run for 6 weeks or so.
Today I have also been trying to find a hotel in London for the two days that we are staying there in June. Hotels are really expensive when you are high maintenance :) Besides I am looking for a place that has a gym so at least I can get a workout in..and if it has a pool even better. My training people suggested I bring my bike...but that would be quite impossible since I am going to be in London, Paris and some small town (which I don't want to go to). Hopefully, I don't lose too much fitness.
Workouts:
LS 4,000yds (87 min)
ER 31 min (3 miles)

My training people suggested I bring my bike...but that would be quite impossible since I am going to be in London, Paris and some small town (which I don't want to go to). Hopefully, I don't lose too much fitness.
Workouts:
LS 4,000yds (87 min)
ER 31 min (3 miles)

Monday I decided that I would do my long run because I could run at night when it was cooler out. I lifted earlier in the day and did an easy spin on my bike of about 45min. Later in the night I did my run. It was not a good run...for some reason my legs were tired and never got better during the entire run. It was probably the weights earlier and maybe I hadn't eaten enough before the run. On the way out Stella decided she was tired and wasn't too excited to be out...so at the turn around I thought I was headed home to drop her off. However, we ran into some sprinklers along the way and after her bathing herself and getting a drink we continued on. It ended up being a 10 mile run..but not a very good one.
Monday's workout:
weights
45 min EB
1hr 40 min LR (10 miles)
Today I got up early for me (900 am) and went for my long ride. Keeping in mind that my legs were probably not totally recovered from the run the night before that had ended at 945pm. I went out early to beat some of the heat. I rode a new ride today and rode on WCR 8 all the way out to the I76 frontage road. Then headed north to Hudson. Here I was suppose to go across this busy road to the other side and ride for about 7 more miles north to keenesburg..but I thought I would go straight and see where this road took me. Well, I should follow directions because it ended about 3 miles up the road. I turned around and started back. I got to a known part of my ride (WCR 6 and CO) and realized I was only 2.5 hours into my ride. Annoying. So, then I headed up to Longmont area and turned around and came back home. The ride ended up being 3 hr 51 minutes in the heat and about 70 miles (It might have been 68). My legs were pretty tired during the ride and more so when I realized I had 1.5 hrs left when I looked at the clock. After the ride I showered ate, napped and ate again. Then I went to the store and I have practice later.
Hot days make you tired. I am wondering where the moderate temperature (no wind) days are??

Saturday I went biking and it was very hot out. I biked up to WCR 6 and met my parents and then biked with them on this road for about 15 miles. Then they left and I went back and continued riding. I rode about 50 miles.
Sunday I got up and it was even hotter today. I pulled weeds in the yard, cleaned out my car..made lunch..actually vacuumed my car and cleaned it all...then washed the car. After this I went and bought the new Oakley girls endure glasses then went to Cole's bday party and off to my game. When I got home at 900 it was still so nice out so I went for a 5 mile run.
Weekend workouts:
MB 2hr 40 min (48 miles)

Dear Mr. Wind...
I would like to talk to you about our friendship. I am sad to say that I must end any friendship that we have had. I have tried to cooperate with you and ride so that you don't blow me over. I have also tried to avoid the days when you are not feeling well or just being plain angry. However, when I hear that you are in a great mood and I go out and you decide to get mad for no reason...well, I can't be friends with someone that does that to me. You almost killed me today by pushing me around so much. I had to ride sideways on the road and everytime you didn't think that the you were pushing me enough...you pushed me even more and I almost flew off the road. I think today your goal was to get me as far from my house as possible before you started being a bully (Yes, I was near Loveland before you decided to be soooo rude!). With that being said...I am hoping that you will leave me alone and hopefully you will decide to move away for awhile...maybe forever!
Sincerely,
Shamuu (aka Keirsten's bike).
Sincerely,
Shamuu (aka Keirsten's bike).
Workouts Friday-Monday:
TS 3,000 yd
TB 40 min
MR 20 min
LR 78 min (7.5 miles outside)
LB 3hr 37min (67 miles)
I took advantage of the beautiful weather on Sunday night and went for my long run instead of doing it tomorrow (tues). It was my first full run outside and the temperature was awesome, with no wind.
However, today I went biking. It began with nice weather and turned into horrible weather. On my return the wind was blowing so much I really thought I would have to call and get a ride home. The wind at one point when I stopped lifted my bike off the ground...yes it was that windy. My LB for the week was suppose to be 4 hour and 45 min but I couldn't imagine being outside any longer...ugh.
My legs do feel a bit tired today after my biking. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up while I was out besides during the hurricane winds (48 mph wind with 62mph gusts). It was my first LRide after doing a Lrun...so I am assuming that is why my hr and my legs were a bit tired. I am looking forward to getting a massage tomorrow :)

Weds workouts:
ER 30 min (outside)
LS 3,500 (75min)
Weights
Thurs workouts
MR 70 min (10-60)
TB 55 min trainer.
Nothing really exciting lately, just doing workouts etc. Oh, I fell of my bike on my trainer the other day, that was funny! It wasn't put in the trainer correctly and I fell, so I got a nice huge bruise on my knee. It was only funny because no damage was done to my bike.

Today's workouts:
1hr 40 min LR (20-60-20)
45 min bike EB
Today was good. I started with 20 min ellip than 60 min or running and finished with 20 min ellip again. I could "feel" my leg but not severe. Came home and ate than napped for a bit before finishing the workouts on the trainer biking.
Nothing exciting today but I am reading a good book right now called keeping faith. It is about a girl that experiences stigmata...it's not a true story but it is really good so far.

Nice :)
Today's workout:
4 hour bike LB (74.5miles) avg hr 151
Very nice out today. Went out biking on frontage road past Johnstown and the Johnsons corner restaurant. Was averaging over 20mph on my way out and had to slow on my return because my hr was higher. Not exactly sure what caused the increase but it could be more hills on return, a bit more wind..needed more calories or need to get in better shape..??
Today I brought limeaide with me on the bike...it was soo good while I was out. It is really strong when you are drinking water a lot and then you have a sip of it...yum :)
I think if I actually worked I would have had to take today off since it was one of the first real nice biking days of the season!
After that I had pt..I literally got home ate, showered and went to pt. I got there and was informed that I was going to do leg exercises before the massage and ionto..made me laugh a bit since I just had a long bike and didn't think it would work out so well to do leg exercises at that point. Then I had lessons and more food. Now time for bed!

Weekend workouts:
40 min (MR)
51 min (MB)
Yoga
Nothing too extreme this weekend...just a few short workouts. Weekends are when I "work" so I do most of my stuff during the week.
Ran a total of 17.2 miles this week. Which is a huge increase from last weeks 7.75 miles of real running last week. Continuing with anti-inflams and some pt and we will see if I can get up to some decent amount of distance.
Weather is looking good for Monday's Long Bike..so let's hope it stays that way!!

Today's workouts:
Weights
TR (10-32) 42 min.
My training has been going well. I know it is just the beginning and the distances and times that I am covering are still around the half times. I'm assuming the times will be going up quite a bit since the race is twice the distance. My body must be adjusting to the times that have been putting in and now is looking for a bit more?? I was going to add a ride today but I'm going to go watch a softball game and then a movie so probably not.
Random...I could make my own Discover card commercial:
Bike $6,000
Bike computer $180
Bike shoes $100
Bike socks $10
Helmet $50
Jersey $75
Shorts $85
Watch $350
Ipod $200
Road Id $20
Training for an Ironman....EXPENSIVE!

Today's workout:
LS 3,500 yds (74 min)
MR 30 min
I got up and went to pt today. They did cross friction massage and massaged the bone. Then they did iontophoresis which puts medicine in via electric spikey shock stuff. That was it...hopefully it all works.
I went and swam some long sets today it mainly consisted of 5x600 and basically kick as the rest. Problem with 600's is figuring out how to count them so you don't go crazy. I started with counting by 2 sets of 12's (24 laps my way of counting). Then I went to one set of 12 and two sets of 6. Then I went to 4 sets of 6...then two sets of 6 followed by three sets of 4 and lastly 6 sets of 4. The last one I counted down from 24. Yeah I was bored!
I ran for 30 min after swimming and my hr was high today. I was only running at 5.3 speed and my heart rate average was probably close to 151...which was really high and I was kind of feeling it.
Nothing else besides I saw a bike jersey I want but of course it is $75 and I need some black bike shorts and of course those are expensive as well.
If anyone would like to donate to my training fund that would be great :)

Doctors are useless...
I went to the dr. today for my leg pain. I was told that it appears to be pain on my fibula where my hamstring attaches. This pain could be caused from a bone reaction (similar to a stress fracture), inflammation of my bone, or one of the first things also putting pressure on the nerve on my fibula. Yeah, I could have figured that out. So, they told me to take 500 mg of naprox twice a day for two weeks to get the inflammation down. Then I am to go to pt 2x a week for bone massage , steroid creams and stretching. Let's hope something helps. I haven't had the severe pain yet but I can feel it so it seems I need to take care of the problem. I was also told that I probably have cartlidge damage and running probably isn't the best thing for me...I was like ummm yeah no shit but I'm talking about my leg not my knee.
Today's workouts:
30 min ER (ellip 5.6 speed)
weights
70 min (TB) trainer ...again too much wind 20.66 miles.

Pool drama...
Today's workouts:
Swim (MS) 3,000 yds
Run 80 min (LR 10-50-20)
Bike 40 min (EB) spin
I started with the ellip and did 10 min and then went to the treadmill for 50 minutes. It was definitely a huge increase in time from my previous long runs. The running was not difficult, oddly enough running seems to take less energy than the ellip. I ran at 5.6 today (again I know not fast) but my HR was under 150 pretty much the whole run. I could start to feel my "leg" a little bit today. Then I finished out the LR with 20 min on the ellip.
Off to the pool for a MS. Today was annoying because I had 1400 straight (27 min..slow I know) and then 3x150 1x300 two sets of this. Then a short cool down. The drama today occurred because this big HAIRY nasty guy...well everytime I am swimming around 300 pm he is in the sauna. Then he gets out and jumps in the pool...with his shoes on! Soooo gross. I complained a few weeks ago and he denied every doing it. So, today he did it twice while I was in the pool so finally I stopped midlap and said...that is so gross to jump in the pool after being in the sauna and you are all sweaty plus you have shoes on! I wanted to include that he was gross in general and needed to do something about the werewolf problem..but I refrained. He flipped out that I thought it was gross. He said he could do whatever he wanted and it wasn't against the rules to jump in...interesting, knowing that he has already been talked to about it. I said I'm just saying it's common sense not to do that...it's gross..that's why this pool is disguisting (which it is soo gross but is going to be cleaned soon plus summer is coming soon so I can swim outside). He kept talking but I put my earplugs back in a went back to swimming. He didn't jump in again while I was swimming so at least it did some good.
Then I came home ate and then napped for almost 2 hours!! I must have been tired..?? I got up and biked for 40 minutes just an easy spin..then went to practice.

Today's workout:
LB 2hr 45 min. (48.45miles/ 141 avg hr)
Very windy out today so I did half the bike outside and half on the trainer (so less mph than usual b/c of wind..I was avg about 20.8 mph but riding directly into wind dropped avg speed). Of course after I finished doing all of this the wind seemed to calm down a bit and the sun came out.
Can't wait until the WINDY season is over!

Autobiography in 5 short chapters:
Chapter 1: I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost-I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter 2: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place, but it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter 3: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in....it's a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am . It is my fault. I get out immediately.
Chapter 4: I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

Today's workouts:
3,000 yd (LS) 64 min
40 min (TR) 10-30.
Weights
I felt good today. I swam first so I wouldn't be tired for the swim. Swim went fine and then I lifted. I was more tired for the lifting since I had gone from swimming to lifting. After lifting I did the ellip for 10 min and then ran for 30. The run felt really good today not that I run all that fast at 5.5mph on the tread. Kept HR under 155.
Nothing else really for today that was exciting.

Long day
I got up early this morning and headed down to take your children to work day at Merril Lynch. No, I was not the child that was brought to work, though some of you may beg to differ. I was instead brought to talk to a group of kids about basketball. Well, kids have no attention spans and so it was quite difficult talking to them so I settled for spinning the ball and showing them my national championship rings. After being there for two hours or so and then going to lunch with my aunt...I went straight to the gym.
I got to the gym and settled in for an easy 5 min ellip, 20 min run and 5 min ellip. After I finished this I went to the locker room to change for my long swim. Something I love to be done with. As I was undressing I realized I had forgotten my swimsuit ugh! You have no idea how annoying that is being that I was already tired from being awake so early and just wanted to get it over.
I drove home and decided no way was I going to make it back to the gym. I was sitting outside and realized it was nice out. So, I figured I needed to get in another workout of something. I decided to do my tempo bike. I ran upstairs and checked the weather and it said winds from north 10mph gusting to 20. I thought, man I don't feel anything like that!! So out I went...well of course if you have read my blog I have said "the weatherman knows best". Today was another example of that. It didn't bother me so much since it was a short ride today but it was annoying on the last two miles when sand was flying at me and I was barely moving...I now have sand in my ears and hair that I am still finding. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up to the tempo zone today...strange, maybe because I was tired who knows.
Todays workouts:
30 min easy run (5-20-5)
60 min TB
